A few years ago the only belts available were an orange belt with cogs on the underside. When you see these on a Featherweight they simply scream at you. However, they did keep the machines sewing - and that is the most important thing.
Now these V-type belts are available. These are the original style that Singer designed for the Model 221 machines. They are black and look 'just right' as well as function correctly.
Class participants in the 'Weed and Feed' workshop learn how to correctly change the belt on their machines (without damaging the paint on the side of the arm), and adjust its tension for optimal performance.
