Needle Turn Applique

Let Nova introduce you to needle turn appliqué. Learning needle turn will forever change your attitude toward appliqué. Once you learn the basic techniques, you can easily use any appliqué pattern or design your own patterns utilizing coloring books or practically any image. Endless possibilities open before you!  And, (caution here!) it is addictive!

For this class you will work on an original pattern designed by Nova that covers all the techniques you will need to create any applique project: narrow stems, round berries, leaf points, and "cleavage" (internal point) that lies flat and is smooth.

More of Nova's applique work --
This block was part of Nova's guild's
donation quilt - they gave her the block
with all the tiny pieces!
This quilt was constructed for the Fabric Carousel's Annual Challenge.  The theme for that year was "Remembering the Past - Looking to the Future".  The quilt if full of symbolism.  Sam Houston is the central medallion.  He was BIG in Texas history and in Huntsville, TX.  He was both President of the Republic of Texas and Governor of the State of Texas.  The raven was Sam Houston's Indian name and personal symbol.  The oak and olive laurel around the medallion are from the Texas Seal.  The building is Old Main the original building at Sam Houston State University.  The bear paw is a symbol for the University and it is stepping off into the future.  The compass to guide the good, true and right way into the future.  Nova won "Viewer's Choice" for this quilt.  The main thing she learned during its construction was NOT to needle turn painted fabric!
