Nova has other workshops available on a limited basis.  Contact Nova for information on these workshops.

There is a reason Nova's workshops always sell out.  She is the trusted leader in the Featherweight industry.
"She is a master teacher!"    Deborah B.

These fantastic little machines were so well engineered that the owner could (and should!) provide the maintenance they need.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to correctly disassemble, clean, and reassemble their beloved Featherweights. Yes, they will sew (and sew beautifully) when you are done!!  There is MUCH more to maintenance than merely oiling the machine.  This is a comprehensive workshop in which all aspects of routine mechanical maintenance are addressed - including motor, and foot controller.
                       "Tell me, and I forget,
                          Teach me, and I remember,
                                                               Involve me, and I learn."
  --- Benjamin Franklin

Nova approaches this workshop from the perspective of a Featherweight user who wants to preserve and protect their machine, but does not have an intricate knowledge of the mechanical workings of the machine. She guides her students through correct maintenance while educating them about their wonderful machines.  Nova not only teaches her students the "What" and "How", but also the "Why" of each step of proper maintenance.  "She is a master teacher!"

Nova carries a full line of Singer Featherweight parts, supplies and products for your machine that are available at the class.
                                         Nova's class is fun
This is Nova's nationally acclaimed workshop!

If you are interested, don't procrastinate.  You are registered, after the registration fees have been paid.

Location: Civic Center (Walnut Room) in Mt. Pleasant, TX  Nova does not plan on ever taking this workshop 'on the road'

This is a professional level workshop designed for those wanting to repair Singer Featherweights for the public in their area.  It is a hands-on, three day workshop.  All aspects of normal repair will be addressed including:

  • diagnosing issues
  • motor belt changing
  • tension assembly - all three styles - including timing the tension assembly
  • bobbin case repair
  • motor cleaning and armature polishing
  • rewiring the electrical receptacle
  • rewiring the foot controller- all three "button" styles and clam shell style
  • foot controller adjustments
  • rewiring the original Singer bakelite "S" plug
  • replacing a light fixture
  • replacing a light switch
  • rewiring "white" machines that are hard wired
  • skipped stitches
  • machine timing
  • extreme cases (i.e. submerged machines, etc.)

Also covered in the workshop will be good business practices in dealing with machines belonging to others.

Lunch will be provided one day.

This is intended to be a "hands on" workshop because greater learning and retention is achieved through the student's participation.  You will need to bring a machine to work on.  You will be opening the motor, rewiring, etc.  Keep in mind you will be learning / practicing - there is a possibility something could go wrong and the machine not function at the end of the workshop.  Auditors are welcome, but the same fees will apply.

There is limited seating for this workshop.  This will be a small class.

There is a REQUIRED tool kit (tool kit fee) that Nova will provide (this is included in the registration fee).  There is also a SUPPLY LIST which will be emailed to registered students.

This workshop is intended to be a general knowledge workshop and not intended to address any specific machine's issues that is brought to the workshop.

Also included in the registration fee:
One year of your listing on Nova's Featherweight Repair Directory page (other conditions being met)
Admittance to the private Facebook group "Nova's Featherweight Repair Workshop" where you can   access the others in this exclusive community who have received this training

If you choose to register for this workshop and you have not completed Nova's Featherweight Maintenance Workshop (maintenance workshops from other sources DO NOT count!) within the past 6 years, you will forfeit your entire registration fee.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
Why?  Nova is regularly told that Nova's Featherweight Maintenance Workshop (one day workshop) is more inclusive than "the other guys" three day workshop.  It will be important that everyone begins on the "same page" for the Repair Workshop.  Nova will not have time to re-address all the information provided in Nova's Featherweight Maintenance Workshop.
It is understood that you may be registered for Nova's Featherweight Maintenance Workshop that occurs between when you register for the REPAIR Workshop and when the REPAIR Workshop takes place.  However, Nova's Featherweight Maintenance Workshop must be completed before the REPAIR Workshop occurs.

Comments from Nova's Students

"She is a master teacher!"  Deborah B.

"As an 'over-educated' retiree, I've attended hundreds of classes / workshops in my career & personal life.  This is by far the BEST class I've ever attended - attention to detail, stayed on the task at hand, well-organized & informative." Julie C.

"I was in your June 16th class in Kansas City and I LOVED IT.  Thank you so much for what you do.  I enjoyed myself so much, I learned more that I could have possibly imagined and my Featherweight confidence level is much better.  I have had a featherweight for almost 10 years now, but I've always been a little bit afraid of it.  Afraid I would hurt it in some way.  Now I'm ready to jump in with both feet! Suzanne B

"Everyone that owns a Featherweight should take this class!"  Angel H.

"I learned several new techniques even though I'm Featherweight knowledgeable!"  Diane D.

"Out of all the classes I have taken, I learned the most here.  I own 14 machines and used to work for a company that sold multiple brands and models.  Nova keeps the class going.  She is very organized.  Good sense of humor."  Georgia S.

"I've taken Featherweight maintenance classes from another teacher.  Nova's class was by far the most comprehensive and informative."
Jann T.

"Your class on Monday was so informative and so well-run.  I'm a teacher too, and I really appreciate your no-nonsense and efficient, yet kind and thorough approach.  My time and tuition were very well spent. "
N. Schmidt

"I have taken a class for featherweights before and I learned much, much, much more in this class.  You are so prepared and knowledgeable.  It was a pleasure to be here."
S. Rex

"I have attended classes from some of the big names in the current Featherweight world and I really loved the personal attention that you gave each of your students. I had a plane to catch and you made sure that all my questions were answered before I had to dart out. I love that your husband "Pico" was there as well. It was nice that your time was not eaten up by having to pass out supplies etc.

"One of the things that I really appreciated is the way you presented your products. It was obvious that you spent a great deal of time and energy developing certain products so that our Featherweights could benefit. At other classes I have taken I have felt that I was constantly being told that I had to buy their products but the "why" was never explained to my satisfaction.  I have also taken classes where there were no recommendations for supplies given. Your class had a better balance. You showed us a product, explained how you researched it and why you recommended it.You always told the whys and that is important to me.
Thank you again for a great class! I hope someday to be as good at teaching Featherweight maintenance as you and have the respect that you have earned."  C.L.

"Thank you.  You and your "TA" are a great team and your class is priceless.  You have the gift of teaching and generosity.  Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and Featherweight passion with the world.  You make the world, particularly the Featherweight world a better place!"
Diane B.

"I learned even more than I expected to learn!  I would highly recommend this class to anyone with a Featherweight."  Wendy C.

"Best instructor / class in many years.  So informative and helpful.  Thanks for having helpful tools and info for sale at the class.
Janice B.

"The best thing I got out of the 'other guys' class was Nova's name from the person sitting next to me."  Beth B.

"You were very thorough; took time to repeat as needed, answered all our questions.  You also made class fun!"
Valerie A.

"Everything was presented in such a way it was easy to follow along and so enjoyable."
Judy J.

"You are the best instructor I have had - I've taken many classes from California to Chicago - you are great!!"
Leigh C.

"It's a mechanics, history and sewing class all in one.  I couldn't believe the day had passed because I was having such a good time."
Michelle P.

"I LOVED your maintenance workshop.  Thank you so much for opening another class in O'Fallon.
Patty T.

Melissa B.

"Such a great Workshop!!! Queen of the Featherweight! Learned so much...highly recommend any class she gives."   Dana B.

"I very much enjoyed the class!  Having done corporate training for 20 years, I recognize what it takes to effectively engage, teach and respond to a class of 16 (or 60!).  I think you did a super job of providing information and techniques – and time to for us to do it ourselves.  I would certainly recommend this class to a friend with a Featherweight!"  Laurie C.

"I was in this class, learned so much, my machine runs great now and I know how to keep it running...Nova does a fabulous job sharing her wealth of information. If you have a Featherweight - sign up for this class now..."  Fran J.
